Acoustic Directions' work for hotels, nightclubs and restaurants assists the licensees and owners to meet the statutory requirements for noise emissions applied by such regulatory bodies as the NSW Liquor Administration Board and the City of Sydney Council. We regularly prepare noise reports for DA (Development Application) and PoPE (Place of Public Entertainment) applications.
As with our other projects, we find that a holistic approach to the management of noise break-out yields better results than simply designing noise-containment structures.
Our understanding of music performance, its dynamics, sound levels and frequency content provides a solid basis for our design of acoustic structures to limit the noise breakout from these venues. Architectural constraints often mean that walls, ceilings etc cannot have a sufficiently high sound transmission loss and we have found that by designing special acoustic absorption systems and noise barriers, substantial reductions in noise breakout result. This is especially important now that smoking has been banned from inside these venues and the demand for outside areas for patrons often yields difficulties for nearby residents. |
We pay particular attention to the location and directional properties of the loudspeakers as these properties are just as important in reducing noise-breakout as the building fabric. In a number of venues, we have designed a bespoke bass array to steer the low frequency sound away from the more sensitive noise-leakage elements such as windows.
