| Acoustic Directions designed the loudspeaker system for main arena of the MCG, which was required to deliver high quality speech and music to 80,000 people.
Our design included a custom bass-array that steers low frequencies in such a way to compensate for wide variation in the distances between loudspeakers and listeners. This wide variation in distances was due to the difficult loudspeaker locations that were dictated by the building design.
Our design was initially undertaken for Jands, the distributors of JBL loudspeakers, in response to the specification. Subsequently we refined the design for Rutledge Engineering Australia, who won the tender to design and supply the system.
We also commissioned the system over a period of eight days, making numerous acoustic measurements to confirm each loudspeaker was operating correctly, setting crossovers, confirming frequency responses and making delay, equalisation and level adjustments. Significant time was spent listening to the system and making small adjustments.
This system has met with acclaim, and was recently awarded The Best Installation Over $500k in Australia by NECA. |
